History of Zehrs
Zehrs is a grocery store brand that is part of Loblaw Companies Limited, one of Canada’s largest
retail chains. The brand traces its origins back to 1950 when the Zehr family established their
first grocery store in Kitchener, Ontario. Initially operating as a small, family-run business,
Zehrs quickly became known for its commitment to quality and service, which helped it grow steadily
over the years.
In 1996, Zehrs was acquired by Loblaw Companies Limited, a move that allowed it
to leverage Loblaw's extensive resources and distribution network. This acquisition facilitated
Zehrs' expansion across Ontario, integrating with Loblaw's broader strategy of offering diverse and
competitive grocery options. Today, Zehrs continues to operate under the Loblaw umbrella,
maintaining its reputation for customer service and quality while benefiting from the larger
company's scale and innovation.
