History of Strepsils
Strepsils, a leading throat lozenge brand, has a history that traces back to the 1950s. The brand was
introduced by Boots Healthcare International, initially targeting the UK market with its medicated
lozenges designed to soothe sore throats and combat infections. Strepsils quickly gained popularity
due to its effective formulation, which typically includes antiseptic ingredients such as
amylmetacresol and dichlorobenzyl alcohol, providing relief from throat discomfort and minor mouth
infections.
In 2006, Reckitt Benckiser (now Reckitt) acquired the healthcare division of Boots,
including the Strepsils brand. This acquisition allowed Reckitt to leverage its global distribution
network and marketing expertise to expand Strepsils' reach internationally. Under Reckitt's
stewardship, Strepsils continued to innovate, introducing a variety of flavors and formulations,
including sugar-free options and lozenges with added vitamins and soothing agents. Today, Strepsils
is sold in over 100 countries and remains a trusted name for throat care, recognized for its
effectiveness and quality in providing relief from throat irritations.
